Job Search Woe

Here's a convo with my hubby that sums up our success on finding jobs:

[17:32] sretske: no actuaries in new mexico on career builder
[17:33] sretske: i think they listened to george soros and got actuaries outlawed...
[17:34] army1275: haha
[17:34] sretske: "it's illegal to combine the theories of statistics and economics in order to more efficiently manage risk..."

There are plenty of UAV jobs in New Mexico. It's not even listed on the Society of Actuaries job website (the main job website for my field). This is my explanation. Pretty much anywhere you have UAV's, they have never heard of Actuaries, and vice-versa. Therefore, it appears that one of us is going to have to not work in the field they want for a couple of years. We pretty much have the agreement that we'll take the first high-paying job offered, the other will either go back to school (if it's DR), or take exams and work in a related field (if it's me). I found a position called "underwriter" that would be pretty relevant to what I want to do, and they have more positions (an insurance company probably has 10 underwriters to 1 actuary). Unfortunately, it isn't very high paying.

I had another phone interview with Kemper (Jacksonville) today. Obviously they didn't offer anything, given the previous statements. In fact, they aren't even close to making a decision, as the Chief actuary is out of the office until NEXT THURSDAY and they are not making a decision until he returns. And I know he's got about a billion other pressing things he's gonna have to do, so they may not even get around to telling me that day. Even if they tell me that day, it will have been two weeks and a day after the interview. That's a long time. I told them our lease is almost up, which is a nice way of saying that we are being kicked out, and I have been applying around. There is a good chance they may miss out, even if they decide to hire me, becuase I may not be available.

Pretty much, since we are being kicked out and neither of us have jobs and we aren't even sure of what city we'll be able to find decent work in, we are faced with the prospect of moving back in with parents. Not sure whose, although both have room for us. I really really hope that it doesn't come to that. (Kay, you'll understand one day.) Unfortunately, getting a job takes forever, so our best bet is still Kemper, even if it takes forever and a day to make a decision. We even have a place lined up should I get the job, but I'll post on that later.
